How to make your own luxurious spa kit
Create paradise at home and have a pamper day with your very own homemade spa kit.
Today I'm sharing how to make your own luxurious spa kit using some of my favorite homemade bath and beauty products and packaging them up so they're good enough to give as gifts.
This DIY kit would be perfect for a friend or family member who could use a relaxing “spa” day at home. There is nothing more luxurious than homemade bath and body products that are fresh, natural and organic.
Homemade Skin Care Recipes for Your Spa Kit
Homemade whipped body butter
This sweet orange with a hint of fennel body butter is delicious. I had a hard time not wanting to scoop it right into my mouth… though I’m sure it feels and smells better than it actually tastes!
With a base of two butters and two oils it makes for a smooth and silky cream when melted, chilled and whipped together. It's on that last step of whipping that you will add your essential oils for the final fragrance. I make in small batches for myself and choose essential oils that suit my mood at the time, if you are making for a friend or as a gift think about what that person likes or perhaps go with a lavender or rose for a relaxing soothing butter. Choose your favorite essential oils according to your personal preference. Once finished, you can decorate your jars with ribbon or lace (I've used some very pretty handmade vintage lace from my collection). You may prefer to leave your jars as they are if you have lovely jars they look just as nice.
- 200g Cocoa butter
- 200g Shea butter
- 200g Coconut oil
- 200g Olive oil
Add the butters and oils to a double boiler, heat until melted stirring with a whisk.
When the butters have melted take of the heat and stand for 2 minutes. Once cooled add your essential oils (3 drops) and whisk with a hand whisk. Put in the fridge for approx 10 mins or until the butters start to firm. Whisk again and put back in the fridge. Leave until butters have set about 10 mins (don't allow them to fully set otherwise the butters are too hard to whisk) whisk until light and fluffy. Spoon into glass jars, I use these lovely Weck jars which are perfect with or without finished decoration.
Honey & Ginger Salt Scrub
- 200g Pink Himalayan Salt
- 100g Honey
- 2 inch piece of fresh ginger grated
- 100g Avocado oil
- 3 drops peppermint essential oil
The main ingredient in this mixture is fresh, grated ginger. There are so many health and skin benefits to using ginger, but one that we particularly love is that it is good for circulation. This body scrub recipe also features honey and avocado oil for luscious moisture, which is something we desperately need in the wintertime.
Grate the ginger skin on using a fine grater or zester. Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and combine until well mixed. Then transfer to jars. Tip - if your honey isn't runny enough gently heat on a pan of warm water until soft and runny enough to pour.
Lavender Bath Salts
I love using my bath salts especially after a busy day, so I keep a large apothecary jar next to my tub full of epsom salt. Epsom salt is so good for detoxing achy muscles and has so many healing properties. You can find plain epsom bath salts in most shops as well as many versions mixed with a variety of fragrance. Nice, but these are often way over priced and don't always contain the best ingredients. Why not make your own with really good ingredients? My favorite version of bath salt includes lavender buds and lavender essential oils. It gives a double relaxing experience and smells oh so good.
It takes literally minutes to make, it's almost effortless and after making all this. . . my kitchen smells like a day spa. I am now deep in imagining a massage. . . Enjoy!
- 400g Epson Salt
- 100g Lavender bud
- 6 drops Lavender essential oil
Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and spoon into glass jars! How simple yet beautiful is this to make!
For my spa kits I used 200g epsom salt and 200g pink Himalayan salt as these are for gifts and I think the pink salt looks extra special.
I finish my Spa Kit's off with a relaxing handmade natural candle when giving as gifts. To learn how to make natural candles see this post.
